A Place for Lava Lamp & Vintage Lights Fans All Over The World
Its been a long time since we have bought a Grande since the last 4 we had were Junk/Cloudy/non-running and over time were thrown away. Patti ordered for us the Neon green version to match our newly redone home. The lamp arrived a few hours ago and is now turned on. The vase is very clear and no smears or glass stars marks on it also the vase has 2 coils for a faster start and one very cool looking dimmer built into the back area. The base has a great Black finish with a nice looking LAVA logo on the front. The pin holes are different in there design unlike a Century would have yet looks nice. This just may be one the LL best Grandes yet so why has it taken so many years to reach this point?

Perhaps LL will offer custom logo towel vase covers for the Heritage models when you buy such. This will have them run nice and warm as they start up. This would be a great option from LL for all to have as we start up the globes. Think about it Less electricity faster start up not having to wait for the coils to fall back down as the wax melts. They would look great in colors with LLs logo on them. They have bead warps so they can just add cloth to them for the Century models and make larger ones for the Grande version. This would be very cool for winter time.
Here is something for the person who cannot Modify there Grande by raising the socket. The towel seems to be the way to go to save money with heating home costs and electricity for the 100w bulb since the vase loves to run at the Temp. of 74.
This look is great for that winter look with a hint of Halloween.
I wonder what there 50th Anniversary lamps will be like since the Heritage collection made with there best parts and formula is becoming a disaster. Lava lamps are to be bought and enjoyed not to be worked on and repaired for them to work. The only Heritage Collection worth buying right now is from Mathmos with there great looking base/caps and there great new selection of globes. They have quality control and people who have been with the company for many years.
Even though this lamp takes a while to start the look is nice.
Its a shame that LL has not made a heat shield yet. This one took me 35min. to make and the result is as suspected. I had to remove my socket extender because it started faster and I had to finally start using the dimmer as I lowered it 1/4 of a turn the lamp was running yes TO HOT. First of there dimmers are junk and loose power thru them. Second the in-line dimmer I installed gives me from a 120 outlet 115 volts yes with dimmers they will loose a small % of power. I believe the Grande and the Century would do very well with NO Dimmer installed. However once summer arrives and both lamp versions have a heat shield then a well built dimmer will be needed. The dimmers on the Grande and yes the Colossus lose alot of power thru them that is why they run very hot at times and then drop power and at time overheat and blow out. This is what LL needs to do Make a heat shield instead of trying to play with formula and making the bulb even closer to the vase.
As winter sets in with its coldness and the temp. really drops outside I still have the house set at 67 and with this Heat shield in place the flow of the Grande is great with no wax cold folds. I can turn the lamp of for a few days and then start it up and with in a few hours the lamp is flowing nice and HOT. I no longer need to place a towel over the vase to get it running.
I have been running the Neon every day for around 10 hours and the lamp is flowing great. With the heat shield in place and the in-line dimmer set at 80% the lamp runs hot and we can see the lava flowing all over the place with it snaking and then flowing with its large to medium globs. The home temp. is set at 66 and this lamp is great.
