Check out Mathmos site for bulbs. Both take the same size bulb also always make sure the lamp you buy on-line works if not there may be trouble with in the socket-line.
The 40w was too much for the Astro while the air temperature was warm for NZ standards. It was causing most of the lava to rise in really small blobs & I can't imagine it would be good for it. Have added a dimmer which has fixed the problem & it's producing large blobs similar to my Astrobaby with the smaller bulb.

Once the temp goes up yes the lava will run hot. I have a dimmer on mine for the summer time.
