Our Grande was running very well today when Patti came over to me and said there is a smell coming from the neon and the bulb is out. I took the bulb out and tested it all was well. Then I saw a black stain on the dimmer. I removed the dimmer and took it out the inner Circuit board was burnt. The problem is at the factory in China the screw that hold the Transistor on to the large Aluminuim heat sink was very loose and not able to get rid of the heat so the Transistor blew. With this problem I noticed that even before it blew the heat would change and the neon would at times run cold then hot again. This will become a major problem for all of there lamps with this poorly made dimmer. The dimmer is easy to remove and that screw in the photo needs to be tightened big time.

Nothing on % dimmers since most dimmers used are for lights and people just dim down as needed. You would think that LW/LL would have made it so with there dimmers since they are Lava lamps.

Its funny how the Lava Lite Heritage collection was to be the best that they can make with there premium components and it has turned out to be the worst that they have to offer for the cost. The Grande seems to be there only winning lamp so far but they also have there problems. I see many more of these dimmers dying out over time just like there Colossus had that began to stop working or caught on fire as they shorted out and sparked.

The Lutron LC-300NLH-BR turned out to be a much better dimmer and is very easy to install in-line on the cord.
