In 1963, Edward Craven Walker, the inventor of the lava lamp launched the world's first lava lamp known as the Astro lamp. Today his inventions are produced by Mathmos, the inventors. Mathmos created a second era of success with the lava lamp in the 1990s and carries on today with classic designs.

Have picked up a new Telstar with no bottle which I will use with the spare blue/blue bottle I already have. Comes with everything from new was ten pounds cheaper than the Mathmos shop & even comes with the rubber fin protectors. Due to the costs involved this will probably be the last new Mathmos lamp I purchase & I only got this one because it was $100 cheaper than buying directly from Mathmos UK & having it sent here by a third party. Which according to Mathmos if sent outside the country of purchase this would void the lamp’s warranty

Have invested in a Telstar without the bottle as I’ve already got one spare blue water & wax to use.

Have spent some more time making sure all of my lamps work & found that the Astro will not work unless it has the correct type of bulb fitted. As it wouldn't light up with the type used in the Astrobaby which made me wonder if the bulb itself is what completes the curcit? I didn't have enough time to warm up the lamps so the pictures will have to wait but I can confirm that the bulbs mentioned in my previous post work well in the Astro. They're slightly a higher wattage than what Mathmos currently uses so hopefully the warm up period is shorter & I guess Mathmos can't get them. As the Astro used to come with a 40w bulb & at some stage this was changed to 35w. I'd suspect if I can get these bulbs here in NZ they'll also be readily available in Australia also.

This is great news.

Had purchased the Astro without a bulb & have not been able to get it going properly as a result. Have since found that a SES PAR16 40W 35 Degrees bulb fits & works well with this type of lamp which is available locally or online.

Have finally started to put the Mathmos lamps to use & had no idea how huge the Astro bottle actually is. Had to change the power plugs but only had enough for the Glitterbaby which I'm now using with a blue wax/blue water discontinued new bottle I picked up separately. Have that & the orange wax/violet water Astro set up but ran out of spare plugs for the green wax/blue water Astrobaby. But it's just a matter of time until we get more & have that lamp ready to go. Are pretty stoked to have them as they're engineered to a much higher standard to most other lamps & the orange wax of the Astro is so much bright. It'll look even better with an Astrobaby on each side all lit up & flowing. It looks like I'll need more power boards though & hopefully all of them in the one room isn't too much for one circuit breaker but will use a RCD for extra protection. Will take some decent pictures once finished & post the best here.

Hi everyone. I have since sold the Fireflow R1 & have put the Glitterbaby up for resale or trade. Have picked up an Astrobaby with blue water & green wax plus an Astro with violet water & orange wax. There's something special about the wax colours they use as they appear much brighter than anything else. I can't say I'm a great fan of their Neo & probably will never own one. Have been collecting a different type of lamp which has gone really well this year. If anyone would like a new/unused orange Glitterbaby please let me know & I've got a thread in the for sale section. Hoping that you all have a merry Christmas & a successful New Years.

Hi everyone I'm John from New Zealand. I've already got a R1 Fireflow & would have more of their new lamps if it wasn't so difficult to get them here. I used to restore old remote control vintage vehicles which I'm in the process of slowly selling at the right price. If Mathmos wasn't so impossible to ship I'd have more as I'd love a Telstar Rocket & Heritage Astro. If anyone here is thinking about selling please let me know.

I am traveling to London at the end of the month for a Monday morning meeting. My hotel has confirmed that they will hold a package for me... I am waiting for Mathmos to confirm they will accept an order to be shipped to my hotel. Pending all of this... I have a lot of decisions! I am bringing an empty suitcase. I would like to get a globe or two for my telstar. I would also like to get an Astro and a spare globe or two. Does anyone have box dimensions for Astros and globes? I would like to leave in the boxes to protect them and hope they fit in my suitcase! I am hoping some Mathmos Junkies can help me out with the following:
1) Box dimensions
2) Advice for a Mathmos-deprived person... which Astro.. chrome? Gold Heritage? Which globes? I wish they were cross-compatible but I hear they don't work on the other bases (weird)
3) Advice if Mathmos doesn't want to ship to my hotel (other than weeping on the phone).. I am there for a day basically!

I am so psyched to get good lamps!
