Club Carramar

Welcome to Club Carramar

Carramar Lighting was an Australian company based in Mt Gambier in South Australia that produced Lava lamps, Fibre Optic lamps and Touch lamps.

Carramar is famous for producing the Volcano Lava lamps.

Their Lava lamps were made with high quality heavy chromed bases and came in various wax colours that produced a great flow.

What was really unique about these Lava lamps was that the globe was indented in the base to house the light bulb within the bottle from the lamp base. The bottom of the lamp base was open and created a bright ring of light wherever the lamp was placed.

Sadly, Carramar went into liquidation, not much is known about this company and it appears its history has gone untold.

I would like to dedicate this page to the only Australian lava lamp company.

If you own a Carramar Lava lamp your pictures and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes they will run Hot but a dimmer will make all well again.

Have any of you had a Volcano behave abnormally during hot days as I’ve had to stop using the 5 leg until an in-line dimmer is fitted.

There's now three five leg Volcano Lamps listed cheap on Gumtree so if any of you Australian collectors doesn't already have a red five leg Volcano then pull finger & make it happen. Another which is no longer listed came with three bottles & I would've loved to add that to the collection.

Love these Carramar lamps. I like the earliest one a lot but they are all really special. It is like a mix of a Rocket and an Astro/ Century design.

Good point https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ringwood/decorative-accessories/lav...

The wax inside the bottle looks similar to my yellow lamp so it makes me think it's not had much use. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold quickly & is no longer available.

I didn't see it John. Do you have a link to it please?

I hope that one of you guys got that red five leg Volcano on Gumtree it appears to be in great condition & may have had not much use. I'm allowed to have a Gumtree account but they stop me from making contact because I'm outside Australia & I won't be renewing the account which is due soon. During the time I've been looking there's been only two red five leg lamps listed with probably no more then ten three leg lamps on Gumtree.

Awesome read all!!! Really ike the blue water & white wax Volcano & wonder if this was a custom filled lamp? Finally understand about the 25w bulb doubt that would be useful here now that it's getting colder. Have not seen a Volcano with the legs screwed in before, very nice.

Great photos and the box is very nice. The plastic and even the metal caps on the vase seem to be hard to find I remember looking for such when I needed one for mine.
