Just noticed on my "re-gooed"  Grande that the stopper is rotting!  Now I admit I did NOT have the cap

resealed so that the stopper was exposed to he air..  The reason being its a little cloudy and I was always going to try and clear it.  So would the exposure to air cause it to rot??

just curious.

I have seen a few Grandes with there rubber seal caps breaking apart. They first came out with Black inner rubber seal plugs then they made them cheaper with a newer White plug and then they made them cheaper again and added a inner flat top part to the rubber seal because they found out that the plugs they made did not seal tight. When they first released the Grandes I bought a few and there rubber plugs were great they were soft and very pliable over time they made the plugs Cheaper and then released the White versions which I had and I have seen a few in which the rubber seems to be coming apart. Exposure to air will not cause it to rot it is the rubber compound that is breaking down.

Yep, that's it.  Its a white plug.  I'm sure I just can't go buy another plug.  That would be too easy.

But if I measure the diameter of the opening, I might be able to fine some sort of plug that

will substitute.

thanks..

What I have done as in this pic of the Colossus and to other Grandes is find the glass size needed in a Magnifying glass which is thick and use clear silicone to glue in place. Then wait for a few days before running. I did not have to recrimp the cap and it became a permanent fix.

You have an engineering/problem solving mind.  Heck of an idea.    I'll get on clearing up my grande and then

try this...

Once your Grande has been running clear for a week then it would be a great time to seal it up. Once done the seal will hold very well forever. They can be sealed cold just remember with silicone have it dry for a week before running the lamp. It needs to dry completely inside out.
