A Place for Lava Lamp & Vintage Lights Fans All Over The World
Celebrating 50 years since the invention of the original lava lamp designed by Edward Craven Walker in 1963, Mathmos, formally known as Crestworth, a new Heritage Astro range has been released inspired by the colours and finishes of the sixties.
These beautiful Lava lamps come in the these finishes and colours
-Electric Blue base and Cap
-Matt Black base and cap
- Gold base and cap
Later the Copper base and cap were also added
with these colourways
- Yellow with Orange Lava
- Clear with Pink Lava
- Clear with Plum/Black Lava
- Clear with Pink Lava
- Clear with Turquoise Lava
Later Mathmos added - Blue with Blue Lava with the release of the Heritage copper Astro
The first batch of the Heritage range originally came with a black base and white or black cord. Now the black base has been updated to a white base and white cord. You will see in some pictures here that some come with black or white bases.
I do prefer the Black base especially on the Matt Black Heritage Astro.
The Heritage Astro Blue, Matt Black and Gold lamps have a unique feature to other Astro's made.
Mathmos changed the inside of the base and included a shelf or heat ring which is fixed to the inside centre for the bottle to rest on. This provides a very sturdy base for the bottle and fixes it into position and keeps the bottle from moving. I like the addition of the centre holder, the bottle always stays straight and in position.
However the Heritage Astro Copper version does not have this feature, it has the same base as the original polished version of the Astro.
The Heritage Copper Astro also came with a 35 Watt Reflector Halogen E14 bulb which has the top similar to a down light. Upon testing this bulb I found it to flow very well.
I only have two of the Heritage Astro models but plan on purchasing the Matt black version in the near future.
I absolutely love the release of these lamps and welcome the new colours and with Mathmos bringing back one of my all time favourite colourways the Blue/Blue.
The flow on the Heritage range is really nice and can be run for hours without overheating. You can use a variety of different light bulbs with the Heritage range which I find to be a bonus now that Incandescent light bulbs are disappearing.
I have to hand it to Mathmos for overcoming this hurdle.
I love the finish of the bases, the Blue has a nice anodised Matt finish to it and the copper just shines and has a great colour to it being a polished base.
I will be purchasing the Yellow with Orange wax bottle for the Copper Heritage Astro.
I love the old skool colour way and will post some pics of it once I purchase it. I want the Yellow and Blue wax bottle too. I just can't help myself.....
Another great bonus is that the Heritage Astro works well with the older Mathmos Astro Bottles.
The Mathmos Heritage Astro range is absolutely beautiful. Mathmos has excelled again at releasing another great model to their range. If you are interested in purchasing the Heritage Astro , I highly recommend it.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss the new Heritage range please feel free to add your feedback, photos and comments.
I will be adding more photos and updates to the forum for the Mathmos Heritage Astro range. Thanks George
