Hi everyone. Would like to thank those who run & post information on this site. As it really helped identify what bulb to use in my lamp. Which I literally got for just a few dollars online & it only needed a bulb to work. The lamp itself is like new as it has spent most of it's time stored because the bulb was not replaced by the original owner. Even the box & packaging is in great shape. Only realised the lamp was special after seeing one on eBay & a quick Google search led me here. I've only got a few lava lamps - three of different size & colours which I use regularly & a tea light candle lava lamp.

Probably should mention the cheap lamp is the one pictured - a blue Carramar Australia lava lamp.

Welcome to Oozing Lava.

The Carramar lamps are really nice, I have a few of them, love the shape of the lamp , the colours and the flow of the lamps. Love how heavy the 1st edition lamp is. Keep an eye on ebay cos they do pop up and sometimes go for a reasonable price. The bulbs are hard to find, I did manage to get a couple of bulbs.

You will need to look for a 30watt E27 short bulb, they are the shorter bulb which are not easy to find , you can also use a 40Watt or 30 Watt pygmy bulb or oven bulb, the 25 Watt ones only just work but do not flow the best, the higher wattage ones are harder to find now. We have a thread on the Carramar bulbs in the Carramar group on the site, add me as a friend so I can add you to the group so you can see the pics of the original and alternative bulbs you can use.

Found a 25 watt bulb that a local hardware store has in stock that would be really close to the original. It's a GE Lighting Light Bulb Lustre 25W Clear E27 Edison Screw & costs only $2.98 NZD each.

Ah that's great, does the lamp flow well with that bulb?

The original bulb can tend to overheat.

Takes a little while to heat up & flow like all lamps do. Didn't want to go over the 30 watt rating that's on the lamp. If I hadn't been able to find a bulb to fit I was thinking of updating the bulb socket & add a custom bracket to mount it to the lamp. But I suspect that would devalue the lamp so wanted to keep it as original as possible.

I love these Carramar rocket lamps. It is like an Astro but is a rocket :)
